It’s getting cold outside and that means it’s time for Chili.

I’ve been to a few chili pot lucks and it really surprises me on how one dish can be made so many different ways. Thick, soupy, noodles, just meat, lots of beans…. one dish, so many ways.

I do have to say… I am a chili snob. I like my chili (and my family’s chili because we all make it about the same). Sorry, at least I’m admitting my snobiness.

I used the seasoning packets until I found a recipe on My Baking Addiction blog for a homemade seasoning mix. I adapted it just a bit to give it a little bit more kick of flavor. No more running to the grocery store to get chili seasoning.

Here’s your line up: Chili Powder, Garlic Powder, Onion Powder, Crushed Red Pepper Flakes, Cayenne Pepper, Dried Oregano, Paprika, Cumin, Sea Salt, Black Pepper.

Mix all ingredients together and keep in a air tight container. That’s it and you will always have Chili seasoning when you’re ready for Chili.

I make my chili in the crockpot, so I can forget about it and go on about my day but you can make it on the stove top as well.

Ingredients

1 lb Ground Turkey

1 46 oz. can Tomato Juice

1 16 oz can Chili Beans

1 14.5 oz can Petite Diced Tomatoes

2 servings or 3 handful’s Whole Grain Spaghetti

½ tsp Dried Basil

½ tsp Italian Seasoning

2 tbsp Chili Seasoning (recipe below)

Directions

Heat a medium skillet on medium high heat. Cook ground turkey until fully cooked. Drain if needed. Transfer meat back to skillet. On low heat add chili seasoning to turkey, mix well. (The heat will help bring out all the flavors of the seasoning.) While the meat cooks, in a large pot or crock-pot combine tomato juice, chili beans, tomatoes, basil, and Italian seasoning. Add the cooked turkey with seasoning and stir. Add spaghetti, breaking spaghetti three times.

Stove top: bring chili to boil stirring occasionally, turn heat to medium low and simmer for 30 minutes stirring occasionally.

Crock-pot: cook on low for 3 hours. Keep on warm until ready to serve.

Homemade Chili Seasoning

Ingredients

4 tbsp chili powder

2 tbsp ground cumin

¼ tsp cayenne pepper

1 tsp garlic powder

1 tsp onion powder

1 tsp dried oregano

1 ½ tsp crushed red pepper flakes

2 tsp paprika

3 tsp sea salt

4 tsp black pepper

Directions

In a small airtight container, combine all ingredients together. Store at room temperature.
